Kyrö was born from Finnish rye, an iconic grain that has become a way of life in this northern country. This 100% malted rye whisky was double distilled in the copper stills of the Kyrö distillery, located in Isokyrö in northern Finland. It captures the bold and spicy spirit of the house that has become a global icon of new-generation whiskies.

This single cask whisky comes from a NEOC barrel from ASC Barrels' founding program: a French oak cask that once held a Bordeaux grand cru, whose hand-planed and then reassembled staves were carefully toasted over a wood fire. This unique technique reveals aromas of spice, wild berries, and biscuit, enhancing the depth of the rye while preserving its deliciousness. The almost fortuitous alchemy between the distillate and the barrel is in fact an unexpected encounter that has revealed a whisky of rare aromatic and flavor complexity.

The first distillery to test these still-confidential casks, Kyrö has made them a cornerstone of its maturation. A whisky of grain, terroir, and shared vision; somewhere between transgressive Finland and conservative France. A perfect and complementary marriage.

Nose : A striking first whiff, where black pepper bursts against a backdrop of dense and captivating extra virgin olive oil. The mingled spices dance like an oriental market, carried by notes of sweet cinnamon and toasted oak, all captivated by a dispersed smoke. Then, the profile evolves: dried fruits are released, stewed prunes and melting dates, with a distant breath of creamy tiramisu that makes itself desired.

Bouche : A silky, caressing attack, where the whisky flows like a spicy, smoky nectar. Subtle chilies bring a comforting warmth, enhanced by saline notes evoking a plate of dried fruits – candied apricots, poached prunes, toasted almonds. On the mid-palate, the richness thickens with accents of salted caramel and a touch of nutmeg that tickles the palate.

Final : Long and comforting, the finish stretches out like a winter afternoon by the fire. The prunes are adorned with intense dark chocolate, the toasted rye bread is still crisp under the tooth, and a hint of candied ginger signs this final impression, slightly spicy, deliciously warm.

The taste is intense, a little spicy. But with smoked salmon, it's truly amazing.

I really felt the Nordic side. It's spicy, rustic, almost wild. Nice packaging too.

Great work on the barley and the toasted side too. I tasted this one after Elysia and we find similarities, maybe it comes from the barrel they are talking about.
